Coronavirus: partial containment extended to all of Algeria

Algeria took this Saturday the decision to extend the measures of partial containment to the whole of its territory faced with the progression of the pandemic of the new coronavirus which left 130 dead.

It was decided “ to extend the partial containment measure to all the wilayas (prefectures) of the country, excluding the wilaya of Blida (South of Algiers) which remains subject to a total containment measure "Said a press release from the Prime Minister's office.

The decision is effective from Sunday until April 19.

So far, partial confinement - which results in a curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. - has been observed in Algiers and in 13 of the country's 48 wilayas.

130 deaths since the first case

130 deaths have been recorded in Algeria since the registration of the first case at the end of February (+25 compared to Friday), according to the spokesperson for the Scientific Committee for monitoring the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic, Djamel Fourar, during his daily press briefing.

The prefecture of Blida, near Algiers, the first focus of the pandemic, remains under complete confinement. A total of 1251 cases of Covid-19 have been officially reported on Algerian soil. In addition, 90 patients were cured.

On March 19, the Algerian authorities ordered the closure of cafes and restaurants in major cities, as well as the suspension of all means of public and private public transport within cities and between wilayas, as well as traffic rail.

The country has also decreed the closure of schools, stadiums, mosques and all places of assembly such as village halls, as well as a ban on demonstrations and the suspension of all air and sea links.
