Cohesion is required in times of the corona crisis. It is lived in Finsing. Now volunteers are sewing makeshift masks for the senior center for Hedwig Geisberg.

Neufinsing - Finsinger also knows that cohesion is required in the face of the Corona crisis. Together with some helping hands, Hedwig Geisberg has recently been making makeshift masks for the senior center in the town center.

A few weeks ago Geisberg already thought about how the "older generation" - she herself is 64 years old - could help those "who are doing their utmost right now and are there for us". The decisive idea finally came from the Neufinsinger boys' association, which currently offers all risk groups in the community to do shopping and errands.

Geisberg, who has been volunteering for the nursing home for many years, then sought contact with the association. "This offered to expand the offer for all employees of the nursing home, whether cleaning staff or caregiver," she says. So the employees themselves would have to go shopping as little as possible.

According to Geisberg, this lowers the risk of endangering yourself and therefore the residents of the home.

It quickly became clear that the enthusiastic hobby seamstress could also help the nursing home in other ways. "Makeshift mouthwears were badly lacking," she says. "I got to work straight away."

For your understanding: these are not the "right" medical face masks. These are worn when there are suspected cases. That is not yet the case in Finsing.

When Mayor Max Kressirer finally asked for help, the relief was great because the work had already started. Via the Facebook group "Finsing - hand in hand - knowing what's going on" Geisberg started looking for helping hands. "I received a lot of required bias tape and a lot of help with the cutting from a good fairy, new, still packed bed linen and wires from a florist from my mother," says Geisberg gratefully. She also gets help with pleating and sewing.

The former community official of the Gelting-Finsing parish association has already brought around 200 masks to the nursing home. "They came into action immediately and are happy to be worn by all employees," explains facility manager Sandrine Pollow. She was overwhelmed by the willingness to help. Geisberg had managed to give employees and residents of the nursing home a great deal of security within a short period of time. (Julia Adam)
