Two "terrorist elements" were shot dead by military and national guard units in west-central Tunisia, according to statements by the Interior Ministry.
The counterterrorism operation is still underway in the mountainous area of Kasserine, near the border with Algeria, the ministry added in a statement without adding further details.
The mountain ranges of Kasserine remain a hideout for jihadist groups, such as Jund al-Khilafa, affiliated to the Islamic State Organization (IS), and Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqmi).
This operation comes at a time when the country is mobilizing all its means to limit the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, which since the beginning of March has resulted in 553 cases, including 19 deaths.
Since March 22, general containment has been in place and must be in effect until April 19.
The country also remains under a state of emergency since the suicide bombing attack in Tunis against presidential security (12 agents killed) in November 2015.
