Increase subsistence allowances

Pesach's distilled pointe is always relevant. As I sat with my boys at the happy little table - and pinching my heart - I asked them what and why we were celebrating. "We went out of slavery to freedom" they answered. And what is the lesson? "We're strong." Try again. In what should we invest this power? silence. "In our confidence." Also, but what does the Torah tell us? Then the token fell. Two ways to strengthen: use his power to enslave others, or to liberate others. "Because you were living in the land of Egypt." The Passover Pointe tells us that with great power comes great responsibility. In routine, certainly in times of crisis.

On this Passover we tasted a little Egyptian Passover, closed in our homes. But, we have an extraordinary opportunity to taste the taste of freedom. How do we do that? Remember that our table has not always been, and may not be, busy. Remember that if we have a momentary abundance, our job is to give to those who do not have them. We made this Passover under the shadow of the Corona Curse, but we have the opportunity to make it a blessing. Remember how we opened Seder? "Haa lama is handsome." This is the bread of poverty our ancestors ate. But the truth is that this bread of poverty eats close to a fifth of families in Israel, every day. According to Social Security data, 18.7% of families in Israel are in food insecurity. poverty. Starvation. No means for the most basic purchase. These families are in even greater distress since the outbreak of the Corona crisis. The middle class is cut short, in the US, worried about its future. Families living in poverty in Israel are struggling for survival. 2.5 million. Ha Lama is handsome.

The economic plan, published two weeks ago, skips them. She does not see that everyday distress is increasing. The children in the feed factory are at home, and are not given a hot meal. The poor workers, who work part-time and occasional jobs, do not earn a dime. Welfare bureaus and psychological services are closed. People with disabilities do not receive adequate support. The associations are closed, and the bread of poverty is invisible and invisible.

At this time, it is our responsibility. Our freedom is limited these days, but freedom is a choice. And freedom should lead us to give back and heart to life in poverty around us. Our freedom should lead to a claim in a big voice: it is time to increase subsistence allowances. As they have done in the US, Germany, Spain, and other countries.
