Markus Lanz spoke controversially on Maundy Thursday about the actual danger posed by the new type of corona virus - with surprising theses.

  • In Germany, over 2,600 Covid-19 patients have already died.
  • On Maundy Thursday, the Heinsberg study * surprised with a far lower death rate than previously thought.
  • At Markus Lanz (ZDF), the Hamburg chief forensic doctor questioned corona assumptions.
  • Here you will find the basic facts about the corona virus *, the path of global expansion * and the corona news from Germany *. Also a guide through our Corona reporting *.

Before Easter, Markus Lanz's ZDF talk was of course again about the corona virus and its consequences. This time Lanz had, among other things, invited a Hamburg pathologist Professor Klaus Püschel to his show, who shook a basic conviction of the coronavirus debate.

As already reported, there are considerable doubts about the death statistics of the Robert Koch Institute * from Hamburg.

Too little is being investigated as to whether people died with or from the virus. Now Professor Püschel, director of the Hamburg Institute of Forensic Medicine, went even further.

Coronavirus talk at Lanz (ZDF): Hamburg legal doctor criticizes the RKI

The forensic doctor initially reaffirmed his criticism of the RKI . It was a "completely wrong measure" not to autopsy the (supposed) corona dead out of fear of a risk of infection. Püschel, on the other hand, has already examined dozens of deceased people who tested positive for the coronavirus - contrary to the RKI recommendation.

The medical examiner found that "especially sick people and people with a weakened immune system" die. He was also able to identify previous illnesses in fatalities under the age of 60, even if they were sometimes not aware of them themselves. With regard to the previous diseases, Püschel called cancer or a chronic lung disease on request from Mopo. Other patients were heavy smokers or heavily obese, had diabetes, or had cardiovascular disease.

I don't know if the assessments are correct, but I think Professor Klaus Püschel's comments are at least worth discussing.

"The virus affects our lives in a completely exaggerated manner. It is out of proportion to the danger posed by the virus."

Corona bei Lanz (ZDF): Won't more people die from the corona virus?

This is why Püschel came up with a surprising thesis on the ZDF talk show, which may seem almost "heretical" these days. The professor believes that at the end of the year there will be no difference in the total number of deaths in Germany compared to previous years .

Püschel bei Lanz: "It is expressed very harshly by me, but they are old and sick people, some of whom would die anyway." The medical examiner thus claims that for most corona patients who die, the death only occurs slightly earlier entry. The reassuring conclusion from his conclusion: "We do not have to have a personal fear of death."

Also interesting: Virologist at Lanz disappointed by RKI - "Collapses like a house of cards". Meanwhile, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier made a television speech to the people of Germany in the Corona crisis. In the meantime, Pope Francis has also spoken about the Corona crisis - and made a surprise call on TV.

Corona: Several European countries report significantly higher death rates in spring

However, there is a new study from Europe that raises doubts as to whether this thesis of the professor really applies. At least currently, there is definitely a clearly increased death rate in many European countries. Estimates of the "Euro-MOMO" network show a sharp increase in all-cause mortality in four European countries that have been hard hit by the Corona pandemic: Italy, France, Spain, England. The death rate was also increased in Switzerland. Statistics show that the death rate in Belgium and Portugal is at least slightly higher.

How this will develop in the long term, and whether Hamburg's legal doctor is ultimately correct is now the question. US researchers expect the corona peak in Germany to be reached on April 19.
