(CNN Spanish) - The Ministry of Telecommunications of Ecuador presented this Monday a digital tool for the geolocation of coronavirus cases by areas in the country's cities. The objective, according to the government, is to monitor the mobility of infected people, determine quarantine places, crowding sites, establish the epidemiological fence and neighborhoods where spraying is to be carried out.

Andrés Michelena, Minister of Telecommunications, indicated that between 35% and 40% of people in the country "have unfortunately broken the mobility restrictions" and added that it is necessary to have greater control to avoid the expansion of the covid-19 in other
cities.

He reported that the coronavirus case georeference tool can be used by downloading the SaludEc application that has been available for several days for medical consultations and information about the pandemic in Ecuador. The tool also seeks for citizens to restrict circulation in areas of greater contagion or where suspicious patients have circulated.

For his part, the mayor of Quito, Jorge Yunda, said that the capital of Ecuador will also have an app that will specifically serve to monitor those infected with coronavirus in real time. He informed that the Municipality of Quito has acquired detection tests that will arrive in the coming days.

Yunda believes that the capital "cannot relax" and that all control mechanisms must be implemented because if the case curve rises further "it would be lethal for a city of 3 million inhabitants," added the mayor.

Starting this Monday, the traffic light system in the country that was imposed by the government governs. This system seeks to establish outbreaks in red, yellow and green according to the number of infections and the behavior of people in the face of restrictions. During this week all the provinces will maintain the red light of maximum alert, and the Emergency Operations Committee will decide where and how, from next week, certain measures will be lifted as long as social distancing is maintained.
and sanitary precautions.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health confirmed 7,529 cases of coronavirus and 355 deaths on Monday. The province of Guayas registers 5,395 diagnoses and its capital Guayaquil, 4,060.
