Coronavirus: nearly 1,500 dead in nursing homes in the Grand Est

Nearly 1,500 residents of Ehpad and other medical and social establishments in the Grand Est have died of the coronavirus since the start of the epidemic, 1,160 in their rooms and 335 in hospital, according to a report published on Tuesday by the Regional Agency for health.

In the region, 639 structures - 417 accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and 222 other medical-social establishments - "declared at least one confirmed or possible case of Covid-19 on the Covid-19 reporting portal" , indicates the ARS in a detailed regional dashboard.

Since the start of the epidemic, all structures combined, 8,802 residents and 5,246 staff members have contracted the virus. 607 elderly people had to be hospitalized. Monday, 4,928 people were hospitalized in hospitals in the Grand Est, including 880 in intensive care or intensive care, according to the ARS. The region, one of the most affected by the epidemic, had 2,105 deaths, including 595 in the Haut-Rhin, 497 in Moselle and 357 in the Bas-Rhin.

Hospitals in the region have observed stagnation or even a decrease in coronavirus activity since the beginning of the month. Since the start of the epidemic, 4,788 hospitalized patients have been able to return to their homes.
