France officially registered more than 15,000 deaths from the Corona virus today, making it the fourth country to cross this barrier after Italy, Spain and the United States.
"The number of virus deaths in hospitals and nursing homes in France rose by five percent within a day, bringing the total to 15,729, compared to a four percent increase yesterday and yesterday," Reuters quoted Jerome Salomon, director of the French Public Health Authority, as saying at a news conference.
Salomon pointed out that the number of injured in the intensive care units fell to 6,730 from 6,821 within 24 hours, so the total decreased for the sixth consecutive day, indicating that the general isolation measures that France extended yesterday to the 11th of May are bearing fruit in containing the virus.
The latest figures indicate that the rate of increase in deaths in France rose again after staying stable for days.
