(CNN) - The President of the USA Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will suspend funding for the World Health Organization while a review is underway.
Trump said at a press conference that the review will assess the "role of the WHO in mismanagement and covering up the spread of the coronavirus."
The president said that while the United States imposed travel restrictions on China during the early stages of the outbreak, the WHO "opposed what we did," he said.
"Other nations and regions that followed the WHO guidelines and kept their borders open to China accelerated the pandemic worldwide," Trump said.
Trump continued: "The decision of other major countries to keep travel open was one of the great tragedies and missed opportunities from the early days."
