Coronavirus: Jean Imbert launches take-out and delivery meals in Paris

2020-04-18T21:13:09.966Z

Closed since March 15, the Parisian restaurant (16th) of the former winner of "Top chef" is reinventing itself with the "Mamie et Jean à la maison" service.

"I can no longer wait with my arms crossed. For 5 weeks I have been wondering what will become of my job. Obviously this is not the main thing because health comes first. And we will continue like many chefs and restaurants to try to provide comfort to those who need it by delivering meals to them. But now I think it is also time to think about what to do next. I absolutely do not turn a blind eye to the plight of many French people but I think it is important to look at least towards the future, to save the businesses that I love, the restaurant with my grandmother, to help our producers by buying their products from them, reinventing themselves, or at least trying. ” It is with these words, posted on his Instagram account, that chef Jean Imbert, owner of the restaurant Mamie (Paris 16th), introduced this Saturday the launch, next week, of "Mamie and Jean at home", its new range of packed lunches, delivered to your home in Paris (€ 10) or to be picked up on the rue Jean de la Fontaine for the neighbors.

I can no longer wait with folded arms. For 5 weeks I have been wondering what will become of my job. Obviously this is not the main thing because health comes first. And we will continue as many chefs and restaurants have tried to provide comfort to those who need it by delivering meals to them. But now I think it is also time to think about what to do next. I absolutely do not turn a blind eye to the plight of many French people but I think it is important to look at least towards the future, to save the businesses I love, the restaurant with my grandmother, to help our producers by buying their products from them, re-inviting themselves, or at least trying. And quite simply, as of next week, offering an alternative to meal deliveries, closer to a restaurant that sets up at your home than to a fast food eaten in front of the TV. A complete meal with the recipes of my grandmother, who will change every week. Served in a recycled cardboard box and reusable glass jars. Five recipes already prepared to make a real meal like in a restaurant. With a tip sheet, as well as a homemade jam to keep, a slice of cake for breakfast the next day, etc. There will also be a vegetarian alternative. The whole fact that by my chef or myself alternately without meeting anyone, respecting 100% the rules of hygiene and being equipped with masks and gloves. The delivery will also be ecological and contactless. This meal will be designed only with fresh products purchased from our eco responsible farmers, it is very important for us to continue to support them. Voila, I opened this restaurant when I was 22 years old, last year I changed it to do it again with my grandmother and I want to try to keep our flame lit. I hope you enjoy it Take care of yourself. What the chef defines as “a restaurant that settles in your home” is materialized by two complete meal offers (an omnivore and a vegetarian), prepared by Imbert or his executive chef, respecting of course the rules of hygiene, from fresh products bought from eco-responsible farmers from whom the restaurant owner is used to supplying himself.

A premium offer - € 42 or € 47 per person -, delivered in an ecological and contactless way, in reusable glass jars and accompanied by tip sheets, intended for customers who want to have fun for a birthday or an occasion. Each basket contains five “recipes from [his] grandmother” , including a jam to keep and a slice of cake for the next day. The launch week meals, to be ordered online on Mamie's website, are they made up of:

• Grandma (€ 47): foie gras / port; pea / burrata / arugula pesto; pullet / tarragon / grilled rice / new carrots; caramelized choco / pecan mousse; citrus jam from Corsica; surprise cake; sesame twine.

• Vegetarian (€ 42): beet hummus / fade radish; pea / burrata / arugula pesto; green asparagus / Calf egg / polenta; caramelized choco / pecan mousse; citrus jam from Corsica; surprise cake; poppy twine.

Closed since the start of containment, and without visibility for the moment on a possible reopening, nor on its modalities, many restaurants are in danger and seek to reinvent themselves. Like Jean Imbert, take-out and delivery are tracks followed by more and more of them ... This is for example already the case of Jean Sulpice, two stars of Talloires (Haute Savoie ), Gaëtan Gentil (Lyon), Pierre Augé (Béziers, Sète, Narbonne) or even Parisian bistros Pottoka or Café Constant. But without guarantee that this is enough to save their future ...
