Giammattei ordered the suspension of flights of deportees until he was certain that people entering Guatemala were free of coronaviruses. The president reported that 21 more cases were confirmed in the country this Friday, including the 12 migrants who tested positive. He congratulated the Guatemalans for the measures they have taken in the face of the pandemic.
On Thursday, Guatemalan government sources told CNN that 44 migrants from the April 13 flight, which arrived from Brownsville, Texas, tested positive for covid-19. Soon after, the Guatemalan authorities indicated that they will be tested again. It was not clear if the 12 confirmed on Friday are part of this group.
To date, Guatemala reports 235 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 7 deaths.
