(CNN) - At least 10 people were reportedly injured in a shooting in Nova Scotia, Canada, where a gunman was detained after the chase, a Canadian law enforcement official reported.

Details about the wave of shooting, which spanned several dozen kilometers, are still incomplete this Sunday. The agent did not indicate how many of the 8 or 10 alleged victims had been killed.

The Canadian police officer and another police source said that at least one officer from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) was among the victims. The police source assured that the agent died along with the suspect.

Authorities recorded half a dozen crime scenes, beginning in Portapique and spreading to Enfield, where the suspect was detained, the source said.

Police officers were preparing to arrest a suspect in Enfield, Nova Scotia, on Sunday.

Authorities identified the alleged shooter as Gabriel Wortman, 51.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police warned the public on Twitter that Wortman may have been wearing an RCMP uniform and driving a silver Chevrolet Tracker that appeared to be a police vehicle. But they clarified that he was not employed by the RCMP.

Previously, the RCMP had warned residents of a shooting in Portapique, where the riot is believed to have started on Saturday night, and said the shooting incident involved "several victims."

While chasing the gunman, the police told residents to stay inside and close their doors, because he was considered "armed and dangerous."

Nova Scotia Prime Minister Stephen McNeil called the shooting "one of the most senseless acts of violence in the history of our province."

The alleged shooter was identified as Gabriel Wortman, 51.

At a press conference on covid-19, he told reporters: "I never imagined when I went to bed last night that I would wake up to the horrible news that an active shooter was on the loose in Nova Scotia."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted: "Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the shooting," adding: "We keep everyone in our thoughts."
