More than 3,000 vehicles were checked and around 100 violations were noted during a major containment compliance operation this weekend on the A9 motorway near Montpellier in Hérault. For this operation, led by the gendarmerie, the highway was closed in both directions and all vehicles diverted to the A709, parallel axis. Customs for their part proceeded to the verification of trucks. The operation mobilized around 150 mobile gendarmes, reservists, the road safety squadron as well as reinforcements on the secondary axes.

Among the offenses identified, a man was stopped with 50 cartons of cigarettes from Switzerland. Tourists have also been fined twice on their way there and back.
In parallel, the Hérault police have checked more than 3,800 vehicles across the department during the past two days. 194 motorists were in violation, the majority for lack of certification. This operation mobilized 291 police officers, at 61 checkpoints across the department.
