The Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanum Gebresos, warned today that the outbreak of the new Corona virus will not end soon and expressed "deep concern" about the impact of the disruption of regular health services, especially on children.
"The pandemic is far from over, and we have a long way to go and a lot of work," Reuters quoted Gipressus as saying in a video conference, adding that the organization was "concerned about the increasing curve of HIV infection in Africa, eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries."
He emphasized that the United Nations had issued warnings at the highest level of the virus since the end of last January, expressing regret that some countries had ignored its recommendations and said, “The world should have listened attentively to the World Health Organization because the global emergency declared on the 30th of January with 82 cases of the virus recorded outside China, before registering deaths. ”
The organization has faced accusations from US President Donald Trump, who earlier this month cut off Washington's funding of the organization by mishandling the subject of the Corona pandemic, minimizing its threat and drawing closer to China without providing any evidence of his accusations.
Gebrissos reiterated that the World Health Organization "provided from the start the right advice based on the best scientific facts and evidence", but made it clear that the mandate of the organization does not authorize it "to impose on states to take their recommendations."
And so far Covid 19 has resulted in more than 206,000 deaths and nearly three million injuries worldwide, according to an AFP count today.
The United States recorded about 55,000 deaths, while the number of injuries on its soil was nearly a million.
