Markus Söder's press conferences have recently achieved high ratings. On Monday, however, the Prime Minister presented himself in a strange constitution.

  • So far, Markus Söder has convinced the majority of Bavaria as an unshakable crisis manager in the Corona period *.
  • However, on Monday the picture of the storm-proof prime minister shook at a press conference.
  • Here you will find all the important news about the Corona crisis in Germany * as well as continuously updated case numbers in Germany as a map *, as well as a Facebook page with the latest Corona news.

Munich - Monday afternoon, many again followed Markus Söder's latest press conference . After the CSU board meeting, the prime minister stepped in front of the cameras to provide information about the current corona situation in the Free State. But this time was a little different.

Corona crisis: Something was different at Söder - the audience did not go unnoticed

Söder was not as energetic and stormproof as usual. His voice threatened to fail and he even blew off a planned interview with the radio station "Gong 96.3" afterwards. The politician's worrying condition did not go unnoticed.

"I don't want to say anything, but Söder sweats, is hoarse and looks sick," posted a Twitter user. "Söder looks pretty sick at the PK," agreed another on Twitter. But there was not only sympathy on the Internet, accusations were also promptly made: "Not a good role model for Söder to go to work sick."

That was behind Markus Söder's questionable PK appearance in the middle of the corona crisis

But is this accusation justified? No. Now it is clear why Söder looked so battered and apparently even had a lozenge in his mouth.

The resolution is easy: the Prime Minister is suffering from a massive hay fever. On Sunday, like many others, he was  cycling in the Free State to relax and received a full load of pollen. So no infection, especially not with the corona virus , but just an allergic reaction, calms the  State Chancellery . Söder is to head the Cabinet meeting as usual on Tuesday - and then go to the press again.

The decision of the Bavarian administrative court should not have been beneficial for the general condition of the CSU politician on Monday. The court ruled that the previous 800 square meter rule for shops was unconstitutional *. Here, the judges recognized unequal treatment in retail. Söder announced quick fixes. State Chancellor Florian Herrmann told Munich's Merkur that although the restriction to 800 square meters would remain, larger stores would also be allowed to limit the sales area to 800 square meters. The infection control regulation will be adjusted in the cabinet. Interesting is the question of how this easing affects behavior in Bavaria and Munich - new data from Google and Apple have now shown that the urge to move is increasing significantly again.

At the press conference, Söder had also announced the prospect of further easing - also for the catering trade. He said no final dates on Monday, but announced plans to relax the corona restrictions by next week.

From the perspective of a pediatrician from Bavaria, this is also urgently required. The doctor raises the alarm: "The effects on children are dramatic!" *
