The "two sessions" of the National People's Congress and the CPPCC National Committee extended due to the epidemic situation are about to be held. The DAB specifically announced 23 recommendations and proposals on Monday (11th), including understanding China's history and national conditions, and improving its ability to respond to major public health emergencies, and Enhance the efficiency of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. These are all positive and worthwhile recommendations, but the DAB also put forward a sloppy idea: to reclaim and construct the "Hong Kong City" in the designated waters on the south side of the Zhuhai section of the Guishan Island and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in Zhuhai City. The hectares of undeveloped land theoretically help to solve the problems of housing and economic development in Hong Kong. We do not question the good intentions of the DAB, but it uses the wrong method. Hong Kong should take care of its own problems, rather than rashly asking the mainland for help.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time the DAB has made a similar proposal-it proposed the construction of a "Hong Kong Village" in Guangdong Province by the "Two Sessions" last year in an effort to waive the purchase restriction order and the mainland tax system requirements. It can be seen that even after one year, the "Routine" of the DAB has not changed much.

Hong Kong has no shortage of land

There is a hypothesis behind the construction of "Hong Kong City" in the Mainland: Hong Kong has insufficient land, but is this true? "Hong Kong 01" pointed out more than once that Hong Kong is not without land, but the land is not in the hands of the Hong Kong government. There are nearly 4,400 hectares of agricultural land in Hong Kong, and a quarter of them are owned by the four largest real estate developers, but these resources have been idled; there are many "village-type development sites" used for the construction of "small houses" and containers in Hong Kong The "brown land" of the course and parking lot, not to mention the Fanling Golf Course. As long as it is properly planned, waste of land can be avoided. The problem is that the government has not been bold enough to “declare war” on vested interest groups such as real estate developers and rural schools.

The DAB published an advertisement in a newspaper in September last year, calling on the Government to use the Land Resumption Ordinance to build public housing to prove that it understands that land is available in Hong Kong. In this case, why not ask for it? The DAB has taken root in the community for a long time and must understand the needs of the grassroots. Therefore, it should continue to pressure the government on the grounds of public interest, and should be sensible to the real estate developers and villagers to encourage the other party to give up unreasonable vested interests. But so far, we have not seen the DAB have enough commitment.

Fear of exporting local social problems

The DAB's proposal is not desirable, not only because it ignores Hong Kong's ability to solve its own problems, but also because it violates social fairness and justice. Because of the Hong Kong government ’s policy problems, Hong Kong is in a golden position. The initiative to build a “Hong Kong city” in the Mainland may alienate. Hong Kong people with insufficient economic capacity should consider returning to the Mainland to live and disguise “export” of Hong Kong housing to the Mainland in disguise. In addition to building houses, "Hong Kong City" will also establish shopping malls, theaters, schools, residential care homes for the elderly, etc. Improper handling may occupy mainland resources and increase the burden on the mainland. It can be seen that "Hong Kong City" is not just a prescription, but will cause more side effects.

It is clear that Hong Kong has the conditions to solve its own problems. Why does it ask the mainland to help? Why did the mainland people's disgust for Hong Kong unnecessarily increase when the relationship between land and port deteriorated due to the anti-amendment campaign? You should be more cautious when making suggestions. This is the responsibility of Hong Kong ’s largest political party.
