  • Corona * has closed the restaurant business.
  • Restaurants will reopen on May 15th, 2020 .
  • However, the Corona contact bans apply - and not every restaurateur is happy.

Frankfurt - It feels like an eternity. When was the last time you sat in a restaurant ? That should have been at least two months ago. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Restaurants have been allowed to reopen since May 15, 2020 . But not every restaurateur is happy about it, because there are special hygiene regulations. Some people don't even want to open their restaurant because of the corona regulations . Why is that?

In compliance with distance and hygiene rules, restaurateurs are allowed to reopen in Frankfurt!

For many restaurants, it is not easy to meet the requirements. Therefore there is the possibility to expand the outdoor areas https://t.co/CIMem1yqAS pic.twitter.com/qav0AktVPu

Landlord complains on Sat 1: Restaurant Blaues Wasser doesn't stay - "should have put on it"

In a contribution by "Sat1" Martin Martinsohn from Frankfurt explains that his trendy restaurant "Blaues Wasser" remains closed in times of Corona . "We don't open now because it doesn't pay off and we would put it on," he says. Martinsohn would lose 1,000 to 1,500 euros a day if his restaurant were to cater for guests. The restaurateur also disagrees with the regulations in the Hessian Restaurant Ordinance.

Above all, it bothers him that because of Corona, he can only host one guest on five square meters. This does not apply to people who live in a household. According to Sat1 "the restaurant regulation breaks his neck." This is how Martinsohn explains that his restaurant has a capacity of around 100 seats. “With the five-square meter per person rule, we drop to 22,” he says. One can imagine that one cannot work to cover costs if 70 percent of sales are lost.

Frankfurt: Restaurant Blaues Wasser and Corona: "We are the human app"

Guests are also required to report, as well as hygiene measures. Martinsohn loses around 40,000 euros per month. "We are the human app that has to write down when someone is sitting here and are now in need of explanation," added the restaurateur. He does not feel comfortable writing down sensitive customer data. But the restaurant  "Blaues Wasser" is not the only one in Frankfurt that does not open due to the strict corona regulations . In a video contribution by the Initiative Gastronomie Frankfurt eV, restaurateurs explain why their restaurant stays tight. And defend themselves against the regulations.

Landlord from Frankfurt complains on Sat 1: Restaurants feel the impact

The "Chinaski" restaurant day bar in Frankfurt also feels the effects of the corona regulations . Owner Julian Smith will also not open due to the five square meter rule. “Ideally, I have eight seats. But that only applies if two families come, ”says Smith. If he was unlucky, he could only cater for four guests. Due to the drop in sales, the restaurateur had to send a large proportion of his employees on short-time work.

But in times of Corona there is also a glimmer of hope for him. “The take-away business is good for us. Even better than we thought ”. Customers would accept the concept. However, the take-away business just covers the costs. “On some days, we go for it. But it is important that people see that there is still one, ”says Smith.

Bars also reopen on May 15, 2020. Nevertheless, despite the Corona loosening, many bars remain tight.
