The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Russia increases to over 300,000. The death toll is rather low in a global comparison. Mysterious cases are piling up.
- In Russia , over 300,000 people have now been infected with the novel corona virus.
- The number of deaths is surprisingly low in relation to the number of infected .
- In connection with a series of mysterious deaths , criticism of the Russian government is growing louder.
- Here you will find the basic facts about the corona virus * and the corona news from Germany. We also provide you with the current number of cases in Bavaria on a map. * The following recommendations for corona protective measures are currently available *.
Moscow - The corona crisis in Russia is spreading and - unlike in Germany - there is a rapidly increasing number of infections . Meanwhile, over 315,000 people in Russia have been infected with the new Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus . This puts the Russian Federation in second place worldwide. Only in the United States are there more registered cases.
Over 300,000 corona infected people in Russia - numbers don't match
However, it is somewhat surprising to look at the registered deaths associated with Covid-19 . Russia has just over 3000 here. Especially in comparison with countries such as Great Britain, Brazil or Italy, which have lower infection rates * , the death rate appears to be exceptionally low.
So low that it seems reasonable to assume that the Russian government will trick the corona deaths and gloss over the numbers. A position that the Russian journalist Alisa Ganieva also takes in a guest contribution for the FAZ (behind a payment barrier). Ganieva reports, among other things, of a draft law that has introduced the punishment for "publicly disseminating false information about facts that pose a risk to the life and security of citizens".
The United States, Russia, Brazil and the United Kingdom are the countries most affected by #Corona. The leaders of this country did not take the virus seriously (while one almost died). Why don't the #Covidians demonstrating notice that?
- Luca Strebel (@StrebelLuca) May 21, 2020Coronavirus in Russia: Freedom of the press severely restricted after law change
This change is intended to massively restrict freedom of expression and the press in Russia . For example, journalist Tatjana Woltskaja was officially summoned to reveal the identity of a doctor who complained to Woltskaja about a lack of ventilators . Other reports of missing protective equipment * are dismissed by the government as fake news.
It is generally forbidden to speak publicly about the extent of the corona crisis in Russia . They only really become clear, says Ganieva, when you look for first-hand reports on social media. There they often find out from relatives, acquaintances or friends who died of pneumonia * , but on which a death certificate indicated a heart attack as the cause of death . Is the government trying to make the statistics beautiful?

Coronavirus in Russia: Mysterious deaths - two doctors die from a broken window
This suspicion is reinforced when you look at a number of mysterious accidents in the past few weeks. So also the case of Alexander Shulepov. In a video message, the doctor complained about the conditions in the Russian hospitals . He had infected himself with the corona virus and should continue to work anyway.
Two days later, the chief of the regional health department also uploaded a video announcing that Shulepov was dissociating from his statements. When Shulepov was again hospitalized a few days later , he fell out of a second-floor window and barely survived with serious injuries.
It is the third such accident since the beginning of the Corona crisis * in Russia. Two doctors had previously died after a mysterious fall out of a window. Both had previously criticized the conditions in their hospitals . Alesander Kosyakin, a colleague of Shuripov, said of the incidents: “Renowned and highly qualified doctors fall out of windows. I have no explanation for that. "
