More and more restrictions to curb the corona pandemic are being relaxed. Nevertheless: The number of registered infections and deaths is still increasing in Germany.
Berlin (dpa) - More than 177,180 infections with the corona virus have been registered nationwide by Thursday evening (previous day at 8:00 p.m .: more than 176,400 infections).
At least 8173 infected with the pathogen Sars-CoV-2 have reportedly died nationwide so far (previous day at 8:00 p.m .: 8117). This is the result of an evaluation by the German Press Agency, which takes into account the latest figures from the federal states.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of reproductions, or R-value for short, was 0.89 on Thursday (data as of May 21, 00:00). This means that each infected person infects a little less than another person on average. The R value shows the infection process approximately one and a half weeks beforehand.
The RKI has also been issuing a so-called 7-day R since last week. It refers to a longer period and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 0.92. It shows the infection process 8 to 16 days ago.
According to further estimates by the RKI, around 158,000 people in Germany survived the infection. As for other countries, experts also expect a high number of unreported cases in Germany.
According to the statistics of the federal states, Bavaria has particularly high numbers of registered infections with more than 46,200 cases and at least 2,370 deaths, North Rhine-Westphalia with more than 36,800 cases and at least 1,545 deaths and Baden-Württemberg with more than 34,200 confirmed cases and at least 1,684 deaths. The time when a new daily status is reported varies from state to state as well as from day to day.
Based on 100,000 inhabitants, Bavaria has the most infections with a value of 353.8. The national average was 213.7. However, the number of tests carried out per 100,000 inhabitants varies in the federal states.
