The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michel Bachelet, condemned the killing of an African man after his arrest by the American police, calling on the US authorities to take "serious steps" to end the killings and violence against African Americans.
And Bachelet said today, in a statement, that what happened was the latest in a long series of African Americans’s killings by police and law enforcement personnel… US authorities must put an end to these killings. With dismay, I had to add the name George Floyd to the name Bruna Taylor, Eric Garner, Michael Brown and many of the unarmed African Americans who died over the years at the hands of the police.
She stressed that "the US authorities must take serious measures to stop the killings and ensure justice is done."
Protests are continuing over the death of George Floyd, who breathed after a police officer installed him on the ground and pressed his neck five minutes for the second day in a row, while the police station in Minneapolis city only dismissed the four officers involved in the crime from their work.
