Irschenberg - Making farmers in the district heard - Angela Babl is still very concerned about this today. And the Irschenbergerin did not shy away from unusual methods in her time as a district farmer. When the then Agriculture Minister Horst Seehofer announced during his visit to the Farmers' Day that he had little time and would have to leave quickly, Babl announced abruptly: "Then I will close the doors." The minister stayed and listened to the concerns and wishes of the women farmers.

Angela Babl on the 80th: From a career changer to a district farmer

Just one example of Babl's tireless commitment to agriculture. Even today, the Irschenberger, who celebrated her 80th birthday a few days ago and was awarded the State Medal for Volunteering in 2008, becomes passionate when she thinks about the still lacking appreciation of the achievements of farmers and rural women in politics and politics Society speaks. "It is sad how some people trample on agriculture out of ignorance," says Babl. The farmers can only come up against this if they present their products and skills with confidence.

The 80-year-old has demonstrated how to do this on several fronts. She spent 24 years for the CSU in the Irschenberg municipal council and 24 years in the district council (1990 to 2014). After ten years as the deputy of Anna Marx from Fischbachau, Babl was elected district farmer in 2002. She did not fight for office, she recalls. "But it was a lot of fun." You can only make a difference if you take responsibility.

This attitude also helped her in the home yard. Because when Babl married her husband Georg (82) in 1962, the hotel manager, who grew up in Allach, was at best a career changer in agriculture. “Back then, you had to really prove yourself,” she recalls. Even today, Babl still shows (young) farmers that commitment and self-confidence pay off. The exhibition "Wos i gern dua und sammed" in Irschenberger Trachtenheim, which she founded together with Sepp Grundbacher, becomes a large stage for all kinds of talents from agriculture every few years. It also promotes exchange among one another and with consumers. Babl's secret recipe, as she says: "It is always important to stay in the conversation." A vehemence that once impressed Seehofer.
