The People's Assembly began the work of its thirteenth regular session of the second legislative round headed by Hammouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the Council, and the presence of Prime Minister Eng. Imad Khamis and the ministers, after the session was postponed since the date of the third of last May due to the precautionary measures to address the Corona epidemic.
In his speech, Sabbagh stressed that the process of following up the issues of the homeland and the citizen has not been interrupted, as the past weeks have witnessed a number of meetings of the permanent council committees with the ministers according to the competence of the committees and the association of their work with the ministries, pointing to the positive interaction that prevailed in the discussions of the committees and ministers.
Sabbagh pointed out that we are facing at this stage a qualitative escalation in the war against us and our country, except that we are able, with our determination, cohesion, and our national flesh, to confront the wars that we are subjected to and that people have not experienced before in this way and brutality, in addition to the economic, psychological, and media wars that are waged against us and rumors and rumors And others, and what is called "Caesar's Law", which is not satisfied with blockading and boycotting Syria, but rather threatens everyone who deals with it in the world, which constitutes a blatant attack on the sovereignty of states and a new and flagrant violation of the most basic rules of international legitimacy, human rights and international humanitarian law.
Sabbagh clarified that the pressure on Syria comes as a result of the defeat of the forces of evil and aggression, led by America, and their military defeat in the field.
For his part, Eng. Khamis indicated that we are meeting today and our country with its various sectors, devices and institutions, gradually returning to its activities after two months and more on the precautionary measures taken by the government aimed at avoiding the danger of the spread of the Corona virus, which remains a challenge for all countries, stressing that meeting with representatives of the people today acquires a special importance in view To the nature of the challenges our country faces at this stage, indicating that the years of steadfastness in which the sons of our armed forces streaked heroic epics and yielded a military victory that would also produce a developmental and economic victory.
Eng. Khamis pointed out that since the middle of last year, the features of the new war led by the conspiring countries are taking shape more and more in order to steal the wealth and resources of our country and try to impoverish our people, and this was evident in tightening unilateral coercive measures on Syria and preventing it from securing the needs of its people and institutions except with great difficulty and hindering the country's investment Its border crossings liberated from terrorism, which reflected negatively on the efforts to restore the country's foreign exchange revenues at a time when the country's development and service projects were expanding over the previous years with the liberation of our army for every region and city from the control of terrorists and the entry of state institutions to it to rehabilitate its service facilities and repair its infrastructure And providing the needs of its residents with various health, educational and relief services.
Engineer Khamis stated that the ugly face of countries that impose unilateral coercive measures and their malicious intentions has become clear with the spread of the Corona epidemic, as the United States and the European Union refused to lift these measures despite the international organizations explicitly and publicly acknowledging their impact and obstructing the efforts of the Syrian state in the face of the spread of the epidemic.
He pointed out that, however, the government, and in cooperation with friendly countries, was able and within the available capabilities to overcome the first stage of the spread of the virus by taking wide-ranging proactive measures and providing what our health system needs and supporting it with the necessary equipment and medicines, while noting that the risk remains, confirming that our governmental institutions are public The health department in particular will remain ready to face any emergency and deal with it with the utmost care and responsibility, relying on the efficiency of our health staff on the one hand and the awareness of our citizen and his full cooperation on the other hand.
Engineer Khamis indicated that the American administration today is taking a new step in its declared hostility project for the Syrian people by imposing new unilateral measures that directly target the livelihood of the Syrian citizen and the work of the state’s institutions that strive since the beginning of the war to provide the needed services and subsidized goods despite all the challenges they face from harming their capabilities And the lack of its resources.
The Prime Minister affirmed that our country, its people, its institutions and its leadership have withstood for nine years of war and that today, in the face of unilateral and coercive measures, it will be more determined and willing to complete its victory and overcome the hostile measures imposed on it, starting from the state’s strategy of self-reliance as a method of action achieved for the country during the previous decades Sufficiency
