The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended Tuesday in Pakistan to reinstate a partial "reconfinement" on targeted areas in order to stop the spread of the new coronavirus. Pakistan has seen a spate of new cases after lifting its containment measures on May 9 in the face of economic pressures. The country officially registered 2,172 deaths and 108,316 cases of contamination. Monday was the darkest day in terms of death, with 105 dead in 24 hours.

The head of the WHO mission to Pakistan, Dr Palitha Mahipala, has sent a letter to the governors of the country's two most populous provinces, Punjab and Sindh, in which he strongly recommends that the (provincial) government adapt an alternate strategy of containment and activity. The authorities of the two provinces have promised to debate these recommendations.
Pakistan, which has more than 207 million inhabitants, tests a maximum of 24,000 people per day for the new coronavirus, while the WHO considers it "extremely important" that the country can conduct more than 50,000 tests daily.
