Tunisia-Sana
Today, the Tunisian parliament began discussing a list submitted by the Dignity Coalition party calling on France to make a formal and public apology to the Tunisian people for their crimes against it during the colonial period and beyond.
According to Tunisian media, the text of the list of the Dignity Coalition Party, which is the fourth bloc in the Tunisian parliament, states that “this apology would turn this black page out of the history of the two countries” in addition to demanding “compensation for the affected people and placing the entire archive of that era in the hands of Tunisian researchers.”
According to the regulation, the crimes committed by France against the Tunisians since 1881 included murder, assassination, torture, rape, forced displacement and looting of natural resources.
The Tunisian party also called in its list for imposing entry visas to Tunisia on French tourists, in application of the principle of reciprocity.
The Tunisian parliament needs to discuss the list and then vote on it to formally accept it by an absolute majority, that is, obtaining 109 votes out of 217 deputies.
It is noteworthy that the demand for the French apology from the Tunisian people and its compensation for what happened to it in the era of colonialism and its aftermath were among the main points in the Electoral Dignity Coalition program, which he participated in last October's elections.
In the same context, the university historian, Adnan Munassir, expressed in a post on his official page on Facebook, “the fear that an issue with such holiness will turn into a subject of tactical investment and that its misuse will lead to its perpetual burying”.
