The United States has registered an additional 941 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of Covid-19 deaths in the country to 113,774, according to a count by Johns Hopkins University on Thursday.

The world's leading economic power is, in absolute terms, by far the country most affected by the pandemic, in terms of both the number of deaths and the number of cases diagnosed (2,021,990). This last number is probably much lower than the reality, due to the difficulty of access to tests encountered at the beginning of the epidemic.

The United States continues to register around 20,000 new cases of coronavirus every day, and is struggling to descend from this plateau because one part of the country (Arizona, Texas, Florida ...) has taken over from the other (New York, New Jersey ...). In some more rural areas, which had been relatively spared at first, the number of hospitalizations is higher now than it was a month ago.

But while this fear of a second wave is shaking entrepreneurs and investors, US Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin warned that the country could not "close the economy again" . "I think we have learned that if you shut down the economy, you create more damage," he added, explaining that the testing and hospital capacity was now sufficient to avoid further containment.
