The national senator and former president of the Nation Carlos Menem (89), was hospitalized this Saturday in a healthcare center in the City of Buenos Aires for lack of oxygen and a possible four of pneumonia.
As one of his lawyers confirmed to Clarín , the legislator was swabbed to carry out the coronavirus test, which finally turned negative.
In any case, Menem - who will be 90 years old on July 2 - will be admitted to the Diagnostic Institute, located at 2346 Marcelo T. de Alvear. Clarín was able to know that he is conscious and accompanied by his daughter Zulemita.
"He went to do a checkup. I found out a few minutes ago. I was with him recently. I know that Zulemita accompanied him," Eduardo Menem , brother and collaborator of the former president , had told this newspaper .
Menem did not participate in the last session in the Upper House because, according to parliamentary sources, he claimed to feel bad. However, his situation was complicated in the last hours, so his transfer to the Buenos Aires health center was arranged.
In recent weeks, Menem actively participated in the virtual sessions that were held in the Senate of the Nation. The senator for the Riojano Justicialista Front with a mandate until 2023 joined the deliberations in the Upper House with a small notebook and from one of the rooms of his house in La Rioja.
Menem even materialized the moment with a photograph that he posted on his Twitter account. "Present at the first remote special session," was the text that accompanied the image of him sitting in front of the laptop, on whose screen Cristina Fernández de Kirchner was seen chairing the debate.
