Hundreds of thousands of Germans were brought back from around the world by the Federal Foreign Office in March and April. The travelers should contribute to the costs of the campaign. But there are still no bills.
Berlin (dpa) - Travelers who were brought back to Germany by the Federal Foreign Office in the Corona crisis should soon receive their bills.
"The participants will be informed individually about the share of costs to be borne in the next few days and weeks," said the Foreign Office. The ARD capital studio had previously reported on the topic.
The Federal Foreign Office launched an unprecedented return campaign for German tourists stranded abroad due to the corona pandemic on March 17. 240,000 people were flown home in just over five weeks, 66,000 of them with machines rented by the Federal Foreign Office. The last of these brought 157 Germans back from South Africa's Cape Town to Germany on April 24. Since then, individuals and smaller groups have been brought back.
According to the Federal Foreign Office, those affected should participate in the cost of charter flights according to the consular law. "Flat rates are set for this, which are based on the distance traveled, comparable average ticket prices and the costs of comparable return campaigns from EU member states."
