Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he was "ready" Monday to speak with his American counterpart Donald Trump, after the latter opened the door to a meeting between the two heads of state. "If necessary, I am ready to speak respectfully with President Donald Trump," said Nicolas Maduro in an interview with the Venezuelan press agency broadcast by state television.

After initially saying he was ready to meet Nicolas Maduro, the American president then clarified that it would only be to negotiate his departure.
