Two suspects, aged 19 and 29, were arrested (Sunday) for involvement in the assault of a police officer two weeks ago in a demonstration in front of the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem. The officer was in civilian clothes and was attacked while making an arrest. The 19-year-old is also suspected of attacking the News 13 team and journalist Avishai Ben-Haim, who covered the events at the scene.

Following the attack, the officer's leg was broken and he is now awaiting surgery. The police said that "Israeli police investigators opened an investigation that night in order to identify the attackers, and after carrying out a number of investigative actions, arrested two suspects who were involved in the attack." The suspects will be brought to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court tomorrow for a hearing on extending their detention.

As you may recall, at the same demonstration, thousands of people came in protest of the government's conduct in the Corona crisis. The protesters called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to resign due to the indictments against him and his performance in the crisis.

Some of the protesters lit torches and threw eggs at police forces. Some tried to break through police checkpoints, confronted police officers and threw objects at them. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.
