The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Engineer Ali Ghanem, said that the main pipeline feeding the southern region was subjected to an explosion resulting from a terrorist act.
Ghanem added in an interview with the Syrian channel, "We were able to separate the sectional valves for this line according to its stages, meaning we separate the location of the malfunction or the terrorist attack on this line, and thus replenish the Nasiriyah station with gas and the Jandar station and gradually restore the electric current."
He pointed out that after the completion of the firefighting operation at the site of the infringement, heavy engineering equipment will arrive to detect the line, and thus the affected sections will be replaced.
In turn, the Minister of Electricity, Engineer Muhammad Zuhair Kharboutli, said that the electric current has begun to partially return to the Syrian governorates, including the center of Damascus.
"The electrical supply has been restored to some important vital installations in Damascus, such as hospitals and some residential neighborhoods, in addition to a partial return of the electrical supply in the governorates of Homs and Hama and the coastal area, pending the restoration of the gas line and the restoration of the electrical situation to what it was," Kharboutli said in a call with the Syrian.
Kharboutli added that all technical workshops, whether in the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources, or the Ministry of Electricity, generation stations and the electrical system are fully prepared to restore the electrical supply to what it was during the coming period.
