The third wave of the epidemic in Hong Kong started on July 5 and has finally shown a trend of falling to a low level. Today (2nd) 8 new patients were added, and the number of confirmed cases hit a new low of nearly two months.

However, the proportion of local cases of unknown origin in recent days is still fluctuating, with substantial changes every few days. Today, half of the cases still fail to identify the chain of infection, and it is difficult to speculate on the trend.

According to data from the Centre for Health Protection, there were 8 new confirmed cases in Hong Kong today, the lowest number since the emergence of the third wave.

From mid-July to early August, the number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong exceeded one hundred on 13 days, and the epidemic was quite severe.

Since mid-August, the number has gradually fallen. Among them, the number of confirmed cases on August 24 has fallen to nine, which is the first time in a month and a half that it has fallen to a single number.

Later, the number rebounded slightly and remained at about 20 cases. By August 31, the number fell to a low of 9 cases again.

However, the proportion of local infection cases and cases of unknown origin in recent days is still similar to that at the beginning of the third wave of outbreaks, and is more volatile.

According to data from the Centre for Health Protection, the number of local infections has hovered around more than 10 since the end of August, and has dropped to a single number since August 31.

The proportion of cases with unknown sources is still very fluctuating. From August 14 to 22, it was once maintained at a low level of about 20% to 30%, but it began to rise to about half on August 23 and maintained for a few days.

As of August 27, the proportion of cases with unknown origin dropped to more than 20% again, but rose to half on the 30th.

Even though only 10% of the cases yesterday (1st) could not find the source, another half of the cases today failed to find a clue of the spread, and it is difficult to use this to estimate the trend of the epidemic.
