1. Portland in the heart of the countryside
For the past three months, Portland, Oregon's main city, has been the scene of daily protests against police violence.
They began on May 29, three days after the death of George Floyd, a black man killed by a police officer in Minneapolis (Minnesota).
They have never stopped since.
Bringing together a few hundred people, sometimes several thousand, the gatherings are held near the courts or near the local police headquarters.
Regularly, they end in confrontation.
At first, the protests led to building fires followed by looting.
Now there are pitched battles night after night between riot police and activists with helmets and improvised shields.
