Following the rise in morbidity in Corona and the fear of closure during the holidays, initiatives are emerging to train shofar-blowers.

Along with the many men who are learning to blow the shofar for the first time in their lives, an initiative was launched yesterday (Thursday) to train women who want to learn the secrets of the field through a special zoom workshop.

The initiators of the idea hope that they, too, will be added to the circle of those who blow the shofar that will pass between the limited minyanim.

"Every year, and especially during the Corona period, women must be trained to blow the shofar and the many and many must be removed by duty on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This year women do not stand aside, but take responsibility and learn to blow the shofar themselves," says The move was already 4 years ago.

"In light of the fact that in recent months many women have been expelled from synagogues and even asked not to come so as not to 'take' the place of men, especially this year, women do not stand aside, but take responsibility and learn to blow the shofar themselves, to present them and their voice and allow. "For them, their communities and their families to hear the sound of the shofar."

It should be noted that just as the movement itself is controversial in the religious space, so is their proposal to train women to blow the shofar.

While there are rabbis who do not see any halakhic problem in women blowing the shofar, there are other rabbis, who are considered more conservative, who oppose it.

The workshop was conducted by Inbar Shifrin - musician and "owner of a blast", and the movement aims to ensure that women who are trained to blow the shofar can choose whether to perform the mitzvah on Rosh Hashanah in front of their family and immediate environment, and in communities.

For them, the corona virus and its effects on the composition and arrangement of prayers are only an opportunity to bring about changes related to the status of women in prayer.

"The women of the Western Wall believe that women can and must have a much larger place in the life of the religion and the religious community," Rapaport explains.

"There will no doubt be some hardships for some communities, certainly more conservative communities, but we believe that every big change starts with a small step. This year there will be a few women who will play the important role and in the future we will see more and more women in different synagogue and community positions. "We believe that the necessity and need of this year, the year of the corona, will also give birth to wonderful things for the future. This is what world repair looks like."
