Rosh Hashanah is approaching, and with it come the customs of the New Year of the Jewish people:

Following the year 5724 and the corona plague that will probably be remembered for many years to come, we decided to look for special customs for Rosh Hashanah, not the classic honey honey. Blessed is he who will be sentenced to a happy new year.

White dress

Many people wear white clothes on Rosh Hashanah, including shoes, a hat, a tie and a hat.

Avoid drinking black coffee

In some Moroccan communities, black coffee is avoided.

This is because people wanted to feel the difference between a regular day and Rosh Hashanah which is the Day of Judgment, and the coffee is also black and it is the opposite of Rosh Hashanah.

Giving honey cakes to neighbors

It is customary to distribute honey cakes to neighbors in Hasidic communities, so that if a person is sentenced to receive food from the public, he will be obliged to receive the cake on Rosh Hashanah.

New knife distribution to associates

This is a way to wish a good livelihood in the new year.

The contract from Lublin distributed to all his associates a knife inspired by the wording of the prayer "which cuts life to every living thing."

If there is a covenant, the mohel will be stuck in the shofar

It is customary to ask the mohel in a covenant that fell on Rosh Hashanah to blow the shofar, in order to connect the blood of the covenant with the blood of the binding of Isaac.

Bake challahs in different shapes

An interesting field that has many customs is challah baking.

Some used to bake challahs in the shape of wings so that the requests would go up and up.

Additional customs: baking challahs in the form of ladders, in order to express "who will be humbled and who will be raised";

Challahs in the form of birds, according to the verse: "As birds fly, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem" (Isaiah 51: 5); it is also customary to bake round challahs, decorated with dough leaves that form a kind of crown, .

Another flavor for round challahs, which are meant to express the zodiac of the months of the year.

Do not eat spicy

Some people do not eat spicy or sour foods at all on Rosh Hashanah, as this can produce a sour or spicy year for you.

Eating etrog

Some people bring etrog to the holiday table and say before eating it, "May the generations be in the mitzvos," because the etrog is a citrus fruit, symbolizing in the four species the wise student who is full of mitzvos and good deeds.

Do not eat black grapes

According to the Kabbalah, it is customary not to eat black grapes on Rosh Hashanah.

On the other hand, it is permissible to eat white grapes - on the contrary, they are a good sign.

It is forbidden to be angry on Rosh Hashanah

Be careful of this on Rosh Hashanah, so that the person does not get angry throughout.

A two-meter-long candle

In Bukhara, the "public candle" sale ceremony was held.

It was a candle made of wax, two meters high and about twenty centimeters thick. In the evening, the head of the congregation would gather at the house and sell the right to light this candle for the price. The buyer pays kindly and carries the candle to the main synagogue, accompanied by singing and dancing.
