The Government of Mexico reported this Friday that hundreds of federal immigration agents will monitor its southern border.
The announcement comes as a group of people who left Honduras on Thursday crossed Guatemala as part of a caravan that seeks to reach the United States, crossing through Mexican territory.
According to the Mexican authorities, the border surveillance mission will be supported by the Armed Forces and the National Guard.
The National Institute of Migration reported in a statement - published on its social networks this Friday - that it made a list of the officers in charge of this mission in Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, on the border with Guatemala.

The commissioner of the Institute, Francisco Garduño, said that the deployment seeks to "guarantee with humanism, with respect, the human rights of any entry" to Mexico.

The official added that it is an activity coordinated with the Armed Forces, the Navy and the National Guard.
On Thursday, the National Migration Institute reported in a statement that foreigners who enter the country "without sanitary measures" due to COVID-19 could be punished and detained.
"In order to comply with the provisions of the Migration Law, actions are carried out to control, verify and review the entry, exit, transit and stay of foreigners in national territory, in order to promote safe, orderly and regular migration", the Institute said in the statement.
