Moscow-Sana

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed today that Germany has rejected the Russian embassy’s request to allow consular access to the Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, who is receiving treatment in Germany.

Russia Today quoted a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry in response to allegations reported during discussions in the German Parliament recently regarding Russia's unwillingness to dialogue with Germany on the Navalny issue through the existing bilateral mechanisms. These statements come as part of the anti-Russian incitement campaign against the background of the case. The alleged “poisoning” of Navalny is considered by Moscow to be a blatant lie, especially in light of the German side's continued neglect of proposals to establish practical cooperation in order to clarify the circumstances of this “poisoning” within the framework of legal aid and consultations based on the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Treaty.

The statement indicated that Berlin did not respond to Russian initiatives at the parliamentary level, nor did it provide answers to the questions raised by the Russian side through political dialogue as well as through diplomatic channels.

The statement clarified that on September 24, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office prepared a fourth request for legal aid in Navalny’s case, and it was handed over to the German side, and we are still insisting on obtaining a response to these appeals, reminding that German doctors had unimpeded access to Navalny in the Russian hospital that was transferred To him after suffering a health problem on the 20th of last August and reviewing all documents related to his treatment.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the organizers of the provocative campaign aimed at demonizing Russia and undermining bilateral relations, stressing Moscow's readiness for a frank and honest dialogue based on facts on the Navalny case.

And Germany claimed that the tests that were taken from the Russian opposition after he was transferred for treatment to Berlin revealed the effects of the poisonous Novichok substance in his body, while Russia confirmed that the tests that the man had been subjected to in Russia did not show any signs of poisoning, and Moscow repeatedly asked Berlin to provide legal assistance to clarify the circumstances of the case. Navalny.
