Mr. Tschentscher, the number of new infections in Germany has skyrocketed.
How big is your concern that this will be the beginning of a difficult Corona winter?
Tschentscher:
We are now in a critical phase in which we have to prevent a second lockdown that already exists in other European countries.
SPIEGEL:
Most recently, the focus was primarily on Berlin as a hotspot.
You are regularly in the capital, are Berliners really that undisciplined when it comes to complying with the corona rules?
Tschentscher:
I can only say about Hamburg: Most citizens are disciplined, but some like to party and don't follow the rules.
There are therefore high numbers of infections in the age group of 20 to 40 year olds.
SPIEGEL:
CSU boss Markus Söder rebukes the capital for being "on the verge of no longer controllability," and serious allegations have also come from the CDU.
Do you understand these attacks?
Tschentscher:
That
Bashing individual cities or countries doesn't help us.
There were times when Munich had the highest infection rates.
And nobody said that it was the nature of the people of Munich.
It is important to respond well.
That is now the task of the Berlin Senate.
