The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the reports issued by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) regarding the alleged chemical attacks in Syria, stressing that the organization showed its bias and politicization of these issues.
In a statement issued today by Russia Today, the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the activities carried out by the organization's fact-finding mission on allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syria of the organization “do not rise to the level of an objective, impartial and professional investigation with strict adherence to all provisions of the Chemical Weapons Treaty.” .
The ministry explained that the mission usually conducts its investigations in Syria from a distance without visiting the sites of the alleged attacks, noting that the mission's main source of information is social media and non-governmental organizations linked to terrorist groups.
The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement criticized the organization’s technical secretariat’s habit of issuing the mission’s reports on the occasion of sessions held by the organization’s governing bodies and the UN Security Council, and its attempt to “show public opinion that it is politically separated from all parties at an equal distance from all parties.
Last September, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, confirmed that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was procrastinating on the investigation of incidents of the use of chemical weapons by armed terrorist organizations in Syria, despite the fact that Syria regularly reports to the organization and the UN Security Council about them.
