Manila-Sana

The Philippine Disaster Management Department reported today that 20 people were killed by Typhoon Goni, which is considered the largest in the world during the year 2020, and hit hard in the south of the country.

Agence France-Presse quoted administration sources as saying that the states of Albay and Katanduanis were more devastated by the hurricane, "while the local authorities indicated that 14 people were killed in the first, while 6 others were killed in the second."

The speed of high winds caused by the typhoon, which is the 18th storm to hit the Philippines this year, reached 310 kilometers per hour, accompanied by heavy rains, which caused a number of power lines to fall.

"About 90 percent of the buildings were destroyed in some areas that were hit by the typhoon," said Richard Gordon, director of the Philippine Red Cross, adding, "We are in a state of terror because of the damage it caused."

Hundreds of thousands of people have left their homes and many are still in shelters as the authorities try to restore electricity, communication and transportation lines.

The Philippines witnesses about twenty tropical storms and typhoons every year, while Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 killed more than 7,300 people, especially in the city of Tacloban, in the center of the country that was submerged by giant waves.
