struggling with alarmingly high new corona infections.

  • Within the last week, the number of

    new corona infections

    almost

    doubled

    .

Luxembourg - A neighboring country of Germany struggled with particularly high numbers on Wednesday.

The small state of

Luxembourg

has just under 620,000 inhabitants, but the number of

corona cases

exceeds the value of many German metropolises.

The number of

new corona infections

has risen sharply, especially in the past week.

Compared to the previous week, it grew by 39 percent to 4701 cases, as the Ministry of Health announced in Luxembourg on Wednesday.

The so-called

incidence rate

, i.e. the number of new infections within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, rose to 750.

Corona numbers alarmingly high: Luxembourg with an incidence of 750

In addition, the average age of those infected has also increased from 40.3 to 41.2 years.

In just one week, the number of active infections rose from 4683 to 8224 cases.

171 people in

Luxembourg

have so far been linked to

Covid-19 *

died.

225 people are in clinics, 30 of them in intensive care units.

The

new Corona wave * has been

spilling over the second smallest country in the EU with a good 600,000 inhabitants for several weeks.

In the German traffic light procedure, an incidence value of more than 100 is considered dark red.

The value of the small country clearly exceeds that.

The

in

Germany

was just under 126.

Corona in neighboring Germany: Night curfew is supposed to help

One reason for the high number of new infections could of course be the proximity to

Belgium

and

France

.

France was one of the first countries in Europe to have a sharp rise in the number of

corona cases

in autumn.

Belgium was most recently the front runner in Europe's corona statistics.

The

coronavirus

did not spread in any other state

*

as fast as in Belgium, the small country was already one of the European hotspots for infections in the spring.

In Belgium, doctors and nurses now have to continue working with Covid without symptoms.

Because it is not the number of intensive care beds that decides, but the specialized scarce staff.

Without interrupting the wave, that threatens us too.

Therefore we need a breakwater shutdown https://t.co/ZrlRHJgtPU

Since last Friday there has been

a night

curfew

from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

in

Luxembourg

and an increased mask requirement - always where more than four people meet.

There has been a partial lockdown

for neighboring

Belgium

since Monday.
