"Count the votes" shouted these Trump supporters in front of a polling station in Phoenix in the US state of Arizona.

They want all votes to be counted, as is common in a democratic election.

"Stop the count" shouted these Trump supporters outside a Detroit polling station in the US state of Michigan.

They want the postal votes not to be counted any further, as is unusual in a democratic election.

Arizona in the southwest of the United States and Michigan in the northeast are among the states in which the decision for one of the two candidates was initially unclear.

The counting takes several days for various reasons, especially the postal vote.

In Arizona, Trump's challenger Joe Biden is currently just ahead with a few ten thousand votes.

Trump supporters believe that additional Trump votes might not be counted - but there is no evidence for this.

The polling station in Phoenix was placed under police protection, and some of the Trump supporters appeared armed.

In Michigan, the victory is now attributed to Joe Biden, where Trump was still ahead on election night.

However, at this point in time, the postal votes, most of which went to Biden, had not yet been counted.

And so Trump stood in front of the press early in the morning after election day and announced in his memorable appearance:

Donald Trump, US President

"We don't want any additional votes to be counted. We don't want them to find any ballot papers at 4 a.m."

While Joe Biden clarified almost at the same time:

Joe Biden, Democratic Presidential Candidate

"It's Not Over Until Every Vote Is Counted!"

As usual in a democratic election.

A scenario to which Trump's supporters respond with protest: for and of course against.
