Biden was elected president of the United States after triumphing in the states of Pennsylvania and Nevada, according to the projection made by the media and while his rival, Republican Donald Trump, rejected defeat and reiterated that "the election did not end."

The 77-year-old former vice president of Barack Obama won his home state, obtained 20 electoral votes and surpassed the threshold necessary to reach the White House, according to CNN, Fox, NBC and ABC.

The democrat also obtained the six electoral votes when winning in Nevada, according to the projection of several mass media.

"I am honored that they have chosen me to lead our great country," Biden wrote on Twitter and has already changed his biography on that social network where he is now listed as "president-elect."

The new vice president-elect, Kamala Harris, said that the election they just won "is much more than Joe Biden or me", it is "the soul" of her country.
