The former president of the United States, Barack Obama congratulated his former vice president, Joe Biden, on Saturday for having been elected as the new president by prevailing in a historic election over the current head of state, Donald Trump.
Obama, who actively supported the candidacy of Biden and Harris, said in a statement that "
I could not be more proud
to congratulate our next president, Joe Biden, and our future first lady, Jill Biden."
He also stressed that
the election of Harris as vice president
was "
revolutionary
", since a woman never held that position in the country.
The ex-
president
highlighted the record of participation in these elections, which has made Biden
the presidential candidate with the most votes in the history of the United States
, with more than 74 million votes.
Biden beat the record of 69.5 million votes that Obama himself cast during his first presidential campaign, in 2008.

"In these elections, in circumstances that we have never experienced, Americans participated in record numbers. And once all the votes are counted, President-elect Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris will have achieved
a historic and decisive victory,
" said Obama .
In addition, Obama asked all Americans, those who have voted for Biden and those who have not, to give him a chance once he arrives at the White House on January 20, because, he assured, the president-elect will hold office having consider in your "heart" the interests of each and every one of them.
"The results of the elections," he added, "show that
our country is still deeply and bitterly divided,
" the former
president added
.
"It depends not only on Joe and Kamala, but on each one of us; we must do our part to get out of our comfort zone, to
listen to others and lower the temperature
and find something in common to move forward, remembering that we are a nation under the grace of God. "

Biden surpassed the magical 270 nominees he needed in the Electoral College shortly before 11:30 a.m. EDT when he extended his lead in Pennsylvania to more than 30,000 votes over President Donald Trump.
The current US president could not achieve reelection in any way without prevailing in Pennsylvania, so the projection of the chains that Biden will win that key state sealed his fate.
When Biden arrives at the White House, he will take the reins of a nation polarized at historic levels, with heavy racial wounds and where the pandemic has killed more than 236,000 people.
