Why Pennsylvania Could Decide Elections

The state of Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes: if President Trump does not win it, he will not be able to reach the crucial 270 necessary to secure the presidency.

Based on the statuses CNN has projected so far, Biden currently outstrips Trump by 253 to 213 electoral votes.

With a victory in Pennsylvania, Biden would exceed the threshold of 270 electoral votes.

But Biden may also reach 270 without Keystone status through a combination of the other states that have not been declared but currently leads.

A combination of winning at least two states out of these three - Arizona, Georgia and Nevada - would land Biden in the White House.

Remember: CNN has yet to project a winner in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Democrats Urge State Supreme Court To Allow Post-Election Ballots To Be Counted

Attorneys for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party told the Supreme Court late Friday that they oppose any order blocking the eventual recount of ballots received after the election.

The legal filing came in response to Republicans in the state, who are asking the court to order counties to "take no action" on the ballots in question while a legal dispute develops.

Early Friday, Judge Alito, acting alone, preserved the status quo by ordering counties to follow current guidance that directs counties to segregate ballots;

if they are counted, they should not be added to the current counts.

He referred the matter to the full court for consideration.

Attorneys for Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar are expected to respond at 2 p.m. today.

These legal filings occur when the court considers whether to accept an appeal from a decision of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court prior to the election.

That decision allowed ballots received 3 days after the election to be counted, even without a valid postmark.

The magistrates have not yet decided whether to resume the dispute.

Critics of the president and other Republicans say he continues with legal challenges to suggest that the courts could affect election results, although the numbers, so far, suggest otherwise.
