Tropical Storm Eta makes landfall along the south-central coast of Cuba, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical Storm Eta made landfall along the south-central coast of Cuba, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.

Eta will continue through central Cuba for the next several hours before entering the Straits of Florida later this morning.

Then, Eta is forecast to pass near or over the Florida Keys tonight and early Monday, before moving to the Gulf of Mexico Monday night and Tuesday.

Eta is forecast to bring significant rains to parts of Cuba where it is possible to fall as much as 60 cm.

This amount of rainfall is likely to cause significant and life-threatening flash floods and landslides in areas of higher ground.

A dangerous storm surge will raise water levels from 60 cm to 1.2 meters above normal tidal levels along the coast of Cuba.

South Florida and the Keys

Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin in South Florida and the Florida Keys this afternoon or evening, and hurricane conditions are possible in the Florida Hurricane Watch area tonight and early Monday.
