The first Wartenberg association held its general meeting online with the beekeepers.

Not everyone could join in, however.

The bee year was meanwhile rather average.

Wartenberg -

The first online meeting of an association in Wartenberg worked technically well: After only ten minutes, all technical questions at the beekeeping association were clarified and the participants were online - if they could.

Some would have liked to, but had to pass the Internet connection due to the lack of bandwidth.

This is what happened in the district of Auerbach, which chairman Dominik Rutz humorously called the “valley of the unsuspecting”, which made for amusement.

Rutz said with a mischievous grin: “You have to go to the local politicians.” It is well known that he is at the right address right away: He is chairman of the Green parliamentary group in the municipal council.

The beekeeping association continues to grow, now has 41 members and around 200 bee colonies.

"That is very decent," commented Rutz on the development, which is also seen by the association.

According to a list he cited, Wartenberg “excelled” in recruiting new members.

Eight new members in 2019, Konstanz the following year, the members were happy to hear that.

The bee year was mixed, the honey harvest was below average.

April was too dry for much nectar to form.

Rutz showed this on the basis of the performance of his photovoltaic system, which had produced peak yields in April.

Problems caused several beekeepers the wasps, which turned out to be particularly aggressive and killed entire bee colonies.

Annoying: Because of Corona, the many courses and training courses at district level could not take place.

This means that the courses that are required for young beekeepers to acquire the beekeeping certificate were also omitted.

Several members suggested that the online format should also be used more intensively for training purposes.

Rutz now wants to clarify at the association level how this form of seminar design could be implemented.

It's not that easy, because the rules and regulations would have to be adapted right up to the ministry that gives money for the training.

A member is particularly dependent on such educational offers.

The young man got an offshoot and was able to start beekeeping.

He urgently asked for assistance.

Rutz even promised one-on-one support for "his" prospective member, because: "Once you have started, the whole thing becomes addictive."

Corona is the time of social networks: Rutz referred to corresponding groups that the association has set up.

The holiday program - because outside - was able to offer something, the planting campaign for crocuses was a "great success".

However, in talks with the market, the association wants to ensure that a little more consideration is given to the flowers when mowing.

Rutz called the planning for 2021 "pointless", but he announced further online events.

Corona, he said, “shouldn't take the momentum out of the club”.
