Suspicion of parental abuse:

A four-month-old toddler was transferred last night (Tuesday) to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon with a head injury, and a suspicion was investigated that one of the toddler's parents, or both, was responsible for the toddler's injury.

The baby's condition is severely defined.

Following the baby's hospitalization, the police opened an investigation into the case, with the welfare authorities also involved in the investigation.

The hospital said the baby was hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit at the hospital.

Just about a month ago two parents in their 40s from the Rechasim local council were arrested on suspicion of abusing two of their children, aged 12 and 13, for several months.

Their four children were transferred to the custody of relatives.

In May this year, a couple of other parents from Ashkelon were arrested on suspicion of severely abusing their infant son, when the abuse allegedly began when he was a few days old, and continued until they were arrested, three months later.
