The corona pandemic has now also hit a prominent public figure: Christian Köck, Mayor of Rottach-Egern, tested positive and is in quarantine.

In the interview, the 49-year-old talks about how he is and how the work as a community leader is going.

  • Rottach's mayor Christian Köck is infected with the corona virus.

  • In the interview he talks about his health and the work as town hall chief.

  • His representative and the manager are also in quarantine.

Mr. Köck, the most important question first: How are you?

I'm fine so far.

I cannot complain and am lucky that I got a mild course.

I do not have shortness of breath, nor am I listless or suffer from impaired taste buds.

I have also been free of fever since last Saturday.

How did you notice that you might have Corona?

With no signs beforehand, I didn't do well last Wednesday.

I have a fever and will be testing on Thursday.

On Friday I had the result that I am positive.

I then discussed everything important with the health department.

As a victim, I received an ID number and have to report my status every day.

What is it currently?

I'm free of fever and overall I'm fine.

Is the whole town hall now under quarantine?

No, of course that is not the case.

After consulting the health department, the two first-degree contact persons are now also in quarantine.

These are my deputy Josef Lang and our general manager Gerhard Hofmann.

Last Tuesday there was a council meeting in the Seeforum.

Are there any problems for the participants?

No, because we have a special hygiene concept for the Seeforum and we keep the distances there.

After consultation with the health department, however, Josef Lang and Gerhard Hofmann, who were sitting next to me, were sent into quarantine, as I said.

I'm in contact with both of them, of course, and they're both fine.

In the meantime they also had to do tests and wait for the result.

Mayor Christian Köck has Corona: So far there has been no infection in the town hall

How is the situation in the town hall anyway?

When you consider how many people we get together with, it's actually quite surprising that we haven't had a single case so far.

It is crucial that we strictly adhere to all specifications.

There is a strict order to the employees that they wear the mask on the way to the town hall and keep it on until they are seated.

I also stick to it strictly.

For example, when I get a sheet of paper out of the printer, I put on my mask.

We have set up Plexiglas walls, the distances are maintained.

At the Seeforum, too, we all wear a mask when going in and out.

We are only allowed to take them down on the spot.

One or the other council member has decided to keep the mask on during the meeting.

We have had our meetings since the beginning of the pandemic and there have never been any problems.

How do community council members react to your illness?

Some have already sent me wishes for wellbeing.

But they don't have to be afraid that they might be infected.

I also discussed the situation with the health department and described the course of the meeting in detail.

However, I already give the advice: Anyone who finds that they are not doing well or something comes up that seems strange to them should exercise caution or get tested.

How is the work going on for the church?

My appointments were of course canceled.

However, last week I planned to take time off anyway.

I keep working and can be reached by phone and email.

Our third mayor Gabriele Schultes-Jaskolla is authorized to sign and comes to the town hall if necessary.

I'll be in quarantine until the end of this week and I'll be back in town hall next week.

Do you have any idea where you might have been infected?

No, it can be anywhere.

It would be speculation what to say.

Corona affects the city and local councils.
