In its tweet, the Assembly said that two people gave their testimonies during the special Human Rights Day session.

"Comrade Inspector of the National Police Damaris Martínez, survivor (of violence), and Comrade Manuela Flores Grijalva, grandmother of the young Carlos Miranda, murdered in the Mayor's Office of District 6 of Managua."

The National Assembly added that Martínez and Flores Grijalva "stressed that they do not want to re-live those episodes they suffered."

They also "want Nicaragua to continue building its peace and development hand in hand with the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity."

The official website El 19 digital stated on May 12, 2018 that "Carlos Alberto Miranda was murdered by right-wing criminal groups when he was guarding the facilities of the 6th district of the Managua Mayor's Office."

But according to a report by the International Group of Independent Experts (GIEI), members of the opposition April 19 Movement expressed that these statements constituted a maneuver to incriminate them in an attack that, according to them, was carried out by shock groups linked to the government.
