Covid-19: Europeans critical of their leaders

SURVEY - Six in ten Europeans believe that their governments should have taken more action to avoid the second wave.


While the overall situation has evolved in many ways since March - better knowledge of the virus, masks galore, imminent vaccination campaigns - the second wave of Covid-19 is causing as much concern as the first among Europeans, a survey reveals YouGov produced in nine countries (United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Sweden and France) for the group of European newspapers to which

Fear of the disease itself and its consequences on health is the number one concern for 49% of Europeans surveyed.

The French stand out as those who are least afraid of it (43%), like the British (44%), when nearly six in ten Swedes express their concern.

More specifically, the Spaniards, who were severely affected by the pandemic very early on, fear the most of losing a family member or loved one (54%), against 41% of Europeans and 45% for the French.
